Nineteen-year-old Caroline Rotich is the first mother to deliver at the newly opened Mogotio Sub-County Hospital’s maternity wing. She developed labor pains at night and was rushed to the hospital. She safely delivered her firstborn in the hands of skilled health workers at the facility.
When pregnant women learn about motherhood in peer groups, they are motivated to adopt healthy behaviors. This is the essence of the group antenatal care approach (GANC), a high impact intervention that has been proven to improve health outcomes for mothers and reduce maternal deaths.
