George Nyairo Obanyi is a communication specialist with over 25 years’ experience in teaching, media and development organizations. Mr. Obanyi has training in education, journalism and mass media, strategic communication and project management.
Since 2009, Mr. Obanyi has been working as a communication specialist with Family Health International, better known as FHI 360, an international development agency with programs in Kenya and 60 other countries. His experience includes design, execution and evaluation of strategic communication projects in diverse contexts. Mr. Obanyi also has experience in project management and training.
Mr. Obanyi has hand-on experience across the communications spectrum, from writing, editing and packaging various information materials such as fact sheets, success stories, newsletters, annual reports, provider and client communications and web content to leveraging the power of social media to achieve organizational objectives. He has also directed and produced video documentaries.
Before joining FHI 360, Mr. Obanyi worked for the African Agricultural Technology Foundation (AATF) as Communications Officer; the World Agroforestry Centre headquarters as head of publications and media, and at the International Institute of Rural Reconstruction (IIRR) as Regional Communication Specialist. He has also worked as a writer and editor for various media houses that include Society Magazine, the Nation Media Group’s Daily Nation and The EastAfrican, and Standard newspapers.
Mr. Obanyi holds MA degree in Communication Studies, postgraduate diploma in journalism and Bachelor of Education degree. He has attended various communication and management related courses.
