Chief Of Party
Dr. Marsden Solomon is an accomplished physician and consultant Gynecologist and Obstetrician with over 20 years’ experience in reproductive health (RH)/family planning (FP) and maternal, new born and child health (MNCH) service delivery. Dr. Solomon has over 5 years’ experience in quality assurance (QA)/quality improvement (QI) in health programs, operations research, health system strengthening, HIV/AIDS programming and integrated public health programs design, implementation and management. He is at present , the Deputy Chief of Party for the USIAD funded AYFA Uzazi ( RHMCANH/FP)( Baringo & Nakuru Counties, Kenya ).
He successfully served as Project Director for the USAID‐funded Program Research for Strengthening Services (PROGRESS) and Preventive Technology Agreement (PTA) projects as implemented by FHI 360 in Kenya. Prior to this, he served as Associate Director and as Regional Medical Advisor providing support to FHI 360’s APHIA II and APHIA Plus Nuru ya Bonde projects in Kenya and other FHI 360 projects in the East, Central and Southern Africa region. For more than eight years, Dr. Solomon has provided technical assistance and led research‐to‐practice initiatives to Government of Kenya institutions and key stakeholders, and led and/or participated in several national technical working groups (TWG) hence very familiar with current implementation science and innovative service delivery approaches. As Deputy Head of the Division of Reproductive Health based at the Ministry of Health (MoH) headquarters, Dr. Solomon developed national policies, guidelines and frameworks to improve RH practices that included financial, administrative, human resource and programmatic goals.
His many publications and contributions include the Standard Package for Expanding Access to FP and MNCH Services at the Community Level (ECSA Health Community, 2014) and the Minimum Package for Reproductive Health and HIV Integrated Services (MOH, Kenya, 2012). His work has earned him several awards and recognition including a merit award from Kenya Obstetrical and Gynaecological Society (KOGS) in ‘’Recognition of Services Rendered in Improving Women’s RH Status in Kenya’’ in 2012; and “A Life Long Trainee in Quality Improvement” award by AVSC International. Dr. Solomon is fluent in both English and Kiswahili. He holds a Master of Medicine degree in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree from the University of Nairobi.
