Alfayo Wamburi

Senior Technical Officer

Alfayo Wamburi is a Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) specialist with over 15 years’ progressive leadership experience in working with local and international NGOs, with over ten years’ senior manager experience on USAID, Global fund, European Union and CDC projects. His long experience of working in communities with vulnerable and key populations to reduce high-risk behaviors, promote health-seeking practices and improve gender norms and economic empowerment is grounded in extensive knowledge of social and behavioral communication theories. Wamburi has led formative research to inform SBCC strategies, developed and tested interventions, and implemented large-scale program rollouts working at national, regional, county, district and community levels. Alfayo worked for PATH in different portfolios including Program associate in USAID-impact project, Program officer USAID-Kenya Adolescents Reproductive Health Program (KARHP), Youth and Gender advisor in USAID-APHIA II Western, Preventions advisor in CDC-TUNAWEZA project and Senior Technical Advisor-Youth in USAID-APHIAplus Western Kenya. He worked for fhi360 as Technical officer SBCC in USAID-Aphiaplus IMARISHA. He as well worked for National Organization of Peer Educators (NOPE) as Director Preventive and Promotive Health services where he supported multiple projects such as USAID-Fhi360 LINKAGES; EU-Oxfam WEZESHA project targeting Women Domestic workers and small-scale traders; USAID-PATH DREAMS Nyanza; Global Fund New Funding Model; USAID-KASH SHIRIKI project; USAID-IMA Afya Jijini project among others, prior to his boomerang his current position in fhi30-Afya Uzazi program. Alfayo has served as a member/official of Coast NGOs Consortium, Health NGO Network (HENNET), Coast HIV and AIDS Consortium (CHACO), NASCOP-TWG for Key population, Youth and Evidence Based Interventions (EBIs) and Turkana County Health Forum. Mr. Wamburi is a Senior Technical Officer for Social and Behavior Change Communication and leads the community component of Afya Uzazi Program. He provides leadership in the development of SBCC and advocacy strategies and technical assistance to various levels of program implementation of SBCC interventions including key cross cutting elements such as Youth, Gender, WASH and Community based Nutrition interventions. He provides leadership in the development of messages and materials and innovations aimed at improving knowledge and creating demand for FP-RMNCAH services at community level. He provides technical support and supervision to multi-skilled teams working in various Counties and Sub-Counties that include coordination of the activities implemented by Community based strategic partners as well as County and Sub-county health management teams. Alfayo holds an MBA in Marketing management and BA, International Relations and Diplomacy.
